It all started when…
Our company has a long history in the region. Ron Whitcher started Whitcher Electrical Ltd in 1964 with 3 staff members under his wing. The company, based out of the old Grand Cinema building on the corner of Jackson and Bay Streets, soon grew due to their well-known name and workmanship.
In 1981, after Ron moved on, the company was purchased by some of Ron’s employees and the remaining staff changed the company name to Petone Electrical Ltd
Eventually, the company numbers dwindled down to one. Dennis ran the show as a self-employed electrician for 5 years.
In 2012, Dennis’ son Lee joined the ranks and Petone Electrical became a family business.
Lee completed his apprenticeship with another employer in 2011. During this time, he gained some detailed experience in aspects of Industrial controls, CAD drawing and commercial refrigeration controls.
2016 saw Dennis retire and the company has now been passed down to his son Lee to carry on the long standing legacy. Dennis remains invested in the company and is known to occasionally get out and about, after dusting his tools off when Lee needs an extra set of hands.
In 2024, The company moved from their premises in Petone and Lee began working from a purpose built workshop at home. As the company is no longer based in Petone, It was decided to change the identity to something more fitting.
Over the years, no matter what we have been called, we have built up a very established customer base that relies on us time and time again for all manner of work.
